Devotion day 26

DAY 26

I remember the confession of my dear friend and prayer mentor, Doug Small, as he walked out of his prayer room. He repeated the voice of God, “Is this it, is that all?” He was speaking of the dialogue and interchange he had just come out of in praying with God.

Doug’s prayer room was a framed off section in his garage where he would spend time in prayer. A small desk and walls covered in prayer requests from around the world and maps of the world. Routinely he would pray over these requests and lay hands on the world maps. A powerful scene of a man in prayer!

It was out of this scene that the voice of God spoke to him, “Is that it, is that all?”

What is God looking for in prayer? Me, intimacy. In prayer God looks for more than a “spiritual Walmart” where we go in (to pray) and come out with our buggy filled with “answered prayer requests.”

Can you hear the voice of our relational Father as He says, “I am not just looking, Sam (your name), for your petitions and passionate prayers. I will honor you as you pray for My Kingdom to invade the world. But child, I wish you would simply spend more time with Me – to know My heart – and My plan for your life. I long for you to wait on Me.”

“I just want you to be with Me.” – God

“Come to Me, all who are weary, and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
