Devotion Day 6

Meet The Father

Matthew 6:6 “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”

Last Monday we ended with our thoughts on the three levels of prayer:

1. Transactional – prayer needs (requests)

2. Transformational – God change me

3. Transcending – I get lost in Your presence

Although all three levels play an important role in our lives, the first level is the weakest (requests), the second level is of greater importance (yet still is about us). The level of transcending prayer where “I get lost in Your presence” is the zenith place of prayer. Very few reach this place.

As I write todays devotion my mind goes to Revelation 1:10 where John the Revelator recounts that “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet.” Jump down to verse 12a “then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me.” Pick up in verse 13 the splendor of the vision rendered: “and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash. His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword: and His face was like the sun shining in its strength.”

What does it mean?

• The clothing of the Lord – priestly royalty

• White hair and flaming eyes – eternity, wisdom, and omniscience

• Fine brass – immutability and omnipotence

• Many water (voice) – commanding authority

Oh, to be lost in His Presence and receive a revelation of Who He is. Get lost in His presence and lose the sense of time and cares of this life.

When secret fellowship with the Father is maintained, our public life will carry the reward. The Father who sees in secret will reward openly!
